BERLIN 2020. Sidse Babett Knud­sen fea­tures promi­nent­ly in Jeanette Nordahl’s con­tem­po­rary crime dra­ma, ​‘Wild­land’, select­ed for the Berlin Film Festival’s Panora­ma programme. 

Jeanette Nordahl’s fea­ture film debut ​‘Wild­land’ will be cel­e­brat­ing its world pre­mière in the Panora­ma sec­tion at the Berlin Film Fes­ti­val in Feb­ru­ary. The con­tem­po­rary crime dra­ma has a script by Inge­borg Topsøe.

A con­tem­po­rary crime dra­ma, ​‘Wild­land’ offers a rad­i­cal med­i­ta­tion on fam­i­ly, loy­al­ty and the seduc­tive cycle of vio­lence and corruption.

Fol­low­ing the trag­ic death of her moth­er, sev­en­teen-year-old Ida falls into the care of her estranged aunt Bod­il and Bodil’s three grown sons. Ida ini­tial­ly finds com­fort in their home, which is filled with phys­i­cal ten­der­ness and a strong sense of uni­ty. But the dark­er real­i­ty of her family’s crim­i­nal way of life and tox­ic dynam­ics slow­ly push­es her to accept vio­lence, addic­tion and intim­i­da­tion as nor­mal. It isn’t until the sit­u­a­tion spi­rals out of con­trol that Ida real­izes that love and vio­lence have become impos­si­ble to sep­a­rate. Doubt­ing if she real­ly belongs with this loy­al, but dan­ger­ous matri­arch and a broth­er­hood on the edge, Ida faces the same ques­tion that her moth­er once faced before her: Just how far are you will­ing to go for your family?

As Ida, San­dra Guld­berg Kampp takes her first major film role. Sidse Babett Knud­sen fea­tures as her loy­al, but dan­ger­ous aunt Bod­il, while Joachim Fjel­strup, Elliott Cros­set Hove and Besir Zeciri play Ida’s cousins.

Direc­tor Jeanette Nor­dahl grad­u­at­ed from the inde­pen­dent film school Super16 in 2012. Her short film ​‘Nylon’ pre­miered at Göte­borg Film Fes­ti­val in 2016. Scriptwriter Inge­borg Top­søe wrote for the crit­i­cal­ly acclaimed ​‘The Charmer’, which world-pre­miered at San Sebastian.

‘Wild­land’ is pro­duced by Eva Jakob­sen, Katrin Pors and Mikkel Jer­sin for Snow­globe, whose lat­est films include the Berli­nale 2019 title ​‘West­ern Arabs’ by Omar Shar­gawi and, as co-pro­duc­ers, Hlynur Pálmason’s ​‘A White, White Day”, pre­mier­ing at the 2019 Toron­to Film Fes­ti­val. The film is backed by the Dan­ish Film Insti­tute, DR and the Film­Fyn region­al fund.

Domes­tic release is set for 12 March. Sales are han­dled by French out­let BAC Films.
